Wish Information: Wish Stories

Wish Child Crystal

Crystal
Wish: New York Shopping Spree
Hometown: Turlock

Crystal, 14, loves to shop. She had no doubt about her ultimate wish – a New York shopping spree. In February, Crystal, who has cystic fibrosis, and her family traveled to the Big Apple for a few days of shopping. In addition to hitting her favorite store, Abercrombie & Fitch, Crystal also shopped at New York’s most famous shopping spot - Macy’s on Broadway and 34th Streets. She picked up tons of clothes and received a makeup consultation.

Wish Child Marcus

Marcus
Wish: Shopping Spree
Hometown: Stockton

Marcus, who has sickle cell anemia, felt like a VIP when a limo picked him up at his home to take him to a shopping spree at Sherwood Mall in December. The 10-year-old had some specific items in mind, including a Nintendo DS. He not only bought that game system but also picked up a Sony PlayStation, several games, an iPod, guitar and clothes, including a jacket. After the shopping spree, Marcus and his family enjoyed lunch at one of his favorite restaurants, Red Lobster. His wish volunteers said he smiled the entire day!

Wish Child Julianna

Julianna
Wish: Barn for her Animals
Hometown: Escalon, San Joaquin County

Julianna, 13, was surrounded by family, friends and wish volunteers for the unveiling of a barn for her animals. Julianna, who has Wegener granulomatosis, a rare disorder in which certain blood vessels become swollen and inflamed, asked for the barn to house her goats, bunnies, a dog and a cat. The barn also includes a loft area for her to read and do homework. This wish was adopted by Hogan Mfg. and Escalon Premier Brands.

Wish Child Justin

Justin
Wish: Shopping Spree
Hometown: McClellan Air Force Base, Sacramento

Nine-year-old Justin had his mind set on a video game system and lots of games. A shopping spree at Best Buy took care of his wish. Daniel, an employee at the Best Buy Citrus Heights store, stayed by Justin’s side to make sure he got all the items on his shopping list. Justin, who has malignant neoplasm of the temporal lobe, a form of cancer, picked up a XBOX 360, several wireless controllers and nearly a dozen games. He and his family finished the day with lunch at Hometown Buffet – Justin’s favorite restaurant.

Wish Child Kayla

Kayla
Wish: Meet all the Disney Princesses at Disneyland
Hometown: Grass Valley, Nevada County

Kayla, 4, had no doubts about her wish – she wanted to meet all the Disney princesses at Disneyland. Kayla adores all the princesses and spends most of her time pretending to be just like them. Thinking about the princesses often helps Kayla get through painful treatments for her autoimmune neutropenia, an illness where antibodies destroy white blood cells, increasing the risk of infection. The illness has kept Kayla from experiencing much life outside her home because of her poor immunity.

But for five days in December, Kayla, her parents, two sisters and brother didn’t have to think about her condition, doctor’s appointments or treatments. Kayla rode several rides and spent time sitting with every Disney princess. Kayla’s dad Joe said, “If there was a princess in the park, we found her.” Lori, Kayla’s mom, said she couldn’t believe how well-planned and relaxing the trip was: “This trip was a much needed respite for the whole family.”
